# Give your AI your investment rules and decision history.

Bring your own mandate into the conversation. After you authorize a supported assistant, it can read your rules, check a stated change and retrieve the records your plan permits.

## Your assistant asks Investboard for permitted context.

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, lets a supported assistant call Investboard tools after you authorize the connection. It retrieves available records when called. It is different from uploading a policy snapshot or using the built-in portfolio assistant.

- Read your policy and current mandate status.
- Check a clearly stated intended change and retain its evidence.
- Record the decision you report; retrieve history, theses and journal entries where your plan permits.

## Know what your assistant can ask.

These are the external connection's seven tools. A tool name describes a specific operation, not unrestricted access to your account.

### get_policy

Reads your mandate and saved instructions.

### get_status

Reads where your mandate stands.

### check_action

Checks a proposed change and records its evidence.

### get_reflection_history

Reads checks an assistant ran. Checks made in Investboard itself are not listed.

### record_decision

Records the decision you have stated after a check.

### get_own_record

Reads the thesis you recorded for one instrument.

### get_journal

Reads your journal entries, newest first.

## Read the rules. Check the idea. Keep the decision.

Start with context before asking for an interpretation. The following questions illustrate a workflow; they are not a transcript or a completed investment check.

### Read

Ask: What rules are recorded in my current investment policy?

### Check

State the intended change and supply the information the tool needs. An incomplete proposal can require clarification rather than a verdict.

### Record

Tell the assistant your own decision after the check. Recording it does not send an order to a broker.

### Return

With Premium, retrieve prior assistant checks or permitted journal entries when reviewing your reasoning.

## Authorize a supported assistant.

You need an active Investboard account and a client supporting remote MCP over Streamable HTTP with OAuth. Client availability also depends on its own account and workspace settings.

### Before connecting

Complete the account setup and record your mandate. Free supports one assistant connection; Premium removes the connection limit.

### Add the connection

Follow the client instructions in Help, add the published MCP address, and sign in to authorize access.

### First question

Ask the assistant to retrieve your policy before attempting a check. Authorization alone does not mean a tool call succeeded.

### Disconnect

Revoke the connection in Investboard when you no longer want it to have access. If setup fails, check your client settings, account access and connection limit.

## A connection has a defined scope.

The external MCP connection reads no holding values or account numbers. It cannot submit orders or change your mandate. It can write the check record and the decision you report.

### Plan access

Core policy, status, check and decision-recording tools require active account access. Reflection history, theses and journal retrieval require Premium.

### Freshness

Tools retrieve the available record at the time of the call. That does not guarantee every underlying data source is current.

### Separate provider

Your chosen assistant processes the information it receives under its own terms. EU processing statements for Investboard's built-in AI do not describe every external provider.

### Policy snapshot

If you prefer a file, investing.md carries your policy at its export date. It does not authorize a connection or update itself.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Investboard MCP execute trades?

No. A check examines a proposal, and record_decision records the outcome you report. Neither operation submits an order or changes broker holdings.

### Does MCP give my assistant the same access as the built-in AI?

No. External MCP has the tools described on this page and reads no holding values or account numbers. The built-in assistant has a separate portfolio toolset.

### Is every MCP tool included in Free?

No. Free supports one connection and the core policy, status, check and decision-recording tools while account access is active. Reflection history, theses and journal retrieval require Premium.

### Will uploading investing.md connect my assistant?

No. The file is a policy snapshot. A live MCP connection requires a supported client and your authorization.
