A daily watchlist briefing, a team of stock analysts and a strategy backtester solve different problems. The five leading projects on InvestingStack show how varied AI investing has become. Their value depends on the research task, data quality and evidence you can inspect.
This comparison follows the default total-stars ranking on the InvestingStack agent leaderboard. The ranking snapshot is dated October 11, 2026; project documentation was checked on October 13, 2026. The strengths, weaknesses and suggested use cases below are editorial assessments of the documented capabilities. We did not run a comparative trading or performance benchmark.
InvestingStack is published by Investboard founder David Bartas. Its methodology ranks projects by public GitHub metrics, without an editorial performance score. Stars indicate attention. They do not establish investment skill or profitable returns.
| Rank | Project | GitHub stars | Useful research task |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | TradingAgents | 110,565 | Examine a stock thesis through several analyst roles |
| 2 | Daily Stock Analysis | 66,156 | Receive recurring watchlist briefings |
| 3 | AI Hedge Fund | 63,932 | Explore portfolio approaches with paper funds |
| 4 | Vibe-Trading | 35,178 | Turn strategy ideas into executable experiments |
| 5 | TradingAgents-CN | 32,243 | Research Chinese A-shares in a localized workspace |
Counts come from the October 11 leaderboard snapshot. The research tasks are our assessment, not an additional ranking. These projects also differ in execution scope: reports, paper trading and optional broker execution are distinct capabilities.
TradingAgents divides research among fundamental, sentiment, news and technical analysts. Bullish and bearish researchers debate their findings before trader and risk-management agents produce a decision. It can run through a command-line interface or be integrated into a Python application. Project documentation.
Strengths. The separation of arguments makes a thesis easier to examine: fundamentals can support a company while technical analysis points to weakness. Users can vary models and debate depth. The current documentation also describes portfolio-aware analysis and historical US fundamentals read from SEC filings as they existed on the analysis date. This helps reduce the use of information unavailable at the time. Data and portfolio documentation.
Weaknesses. Additional agents and debate rounds generally require more model calls, increasing cost and waiting time. Historical non-US fundamentals have limitations: Yahoo statements are withheld when the framework cannot establish when they became public. Agent agreement should therefore be checked against the evidence, not treated as independent validation.
A useful starting setup. Our assessment is to begin with one ticker, a fixed model configuration and saved reports. Compare the reasoning across runs before expanding the workflow. TradingAgents is a natural candidate for developers and researchers who want to inspect how an investment thesis is assembled.
What we developed for TradingAgents. Investboard offers the open-source tradingagents-investboard connector, also available on PyPI. TradingAgents runs locally using your own model-provider keys. The connector can supply its core market-data reads through your Investboard account, add your investment mandate and existing position to each agent's context, and post the completed analysis back to Investboard for storage and a mandate check. This connects stock research with the portfolio and rules it needs to take into account.
The connector's README specifies TradingAgents v0.4.0 as its tested release; consult its compatibility instructions before using newer upstream versions. It does not place orders, and a mandate-check verdict is a record for review, not investor approval or a broker order block. Our write-up on turning TradingAgents analysis into a reviewable investment decision explains the implementation and the limits of the evidence collected so far.
Daily Stock Analysis analyses a user-defined watchlist and delivers reports through channels including Telegram, Discord, Slack, email, WeCom and Feishu. Deployment options include GitHub Actions, Docker and local scheduling. A web or desktop workspace provides access to previous analyses. Project documentation.
Strengths. The workflow fits research into a repeatable routine. Reports combine conclusions, technical information, news and risk alerts. Free market-data sources make an initial experiment relatively accessible, and notifications reduce the need to open another dashboard every day.
Weaknesses. The maintainers warn that free sources can suffer rate limits, interface changes and network problems. Free scheduling does not guarantee free model inference or news search. The usefulness of a briefing therefore depends on the source quality and service configuration behind it. Data-source notes.
Market coverage is uneven. Japan and Korea use Yahoo-based data paths with limited fundamentals and portfolio valuation; Taiwan also retains documented gaps. Recognizing a ticker does not imply complete analysis across markets. Market-support boundaries.
A useful starting setup. Start with a short watchlist, one delivery channel and a schedule that matches the market being followed. Our assessment is that this project suits regular research briefings, provided the reader checks missing data and whether each report adds useful information.
AI Hedge Fund combines stylised investor agents and quantitative models within a configurable fund architecture. The investor personas approximate public investment philosophies; they are neither the named investors nor their endorsements. Its vision document distinguishes shipped functionality from longer-term ambitions. Architecture and vision.
Strengths. The documented application provides paper trading and backtesting. Paper funds maintain a persistent ledger; backtests replay a fund over history and compare its equity curve with a benchmark. This makes it useful for studying how research opinions become positions and how a portfolio develops. Current application documentation.
Weaknesses. A convincing Buffett-style explanation is not evidence of Buffett-like results. Our assessment is that personas can help explore different arguments, but need evaluation like any other model. The application also requires Financial Datasets credentials and a model-provider key. Although the vision discusses future live execution, the current README describes an educational application that does not make real trades. Requirements and scope.
A useful starting setup. Define one paper fund, keep its analyst selection and universe stable, and examine both the decision history and benchmark comparison. This is a candidate for users who want to compare portfolio approaches over time rather than inspect isolated stock reports.
Vibe-Trading connects natural-language requests with market-data tools, strategy generation, backtests, reports and persistent memory. It includes analyst teams and MCP tools. Its Shadow Account workflow analyses trading records and compares the actual trading path with extracted rules. Project documentation.
Strengths. The path from an idea to inspectable artifacts is compelling. A session can produce strategy code, benchmark comparisons, validation outputs and run cards. These give a researcher concrete material to examine beyond a conversational recommendation.
Weaknesses. Breadth creates complexity. Data sources, market conventions, generated code and execution assumptions must agree. Recent updates document corrections to fills, drawdown calculations, valuation and filing timing. This shows active maintenance while reinforcing the need to tie experiments to a specific software version. Documented updates.
Broker support also varies. The documentation distinguishes declared capabilities from verified behavior, and some portfolio connectors remain experimental. Optional live trading uses separately authorized broker connections. Connector documentation.
A useful starting setup. Our assessment is to begin with a narrow research question, a fixed data source and saved run artifacts. Vibe-Trading suits technically comfortable users exploring strategies; the speed of generating an experiment should not substitute for checking its validity.
The current TradingAgents-CN Community Edition describes an A-share research assistant with debate-style analysis, natural-language screening, memory, custom data skills and paper trading. Its appeal is localization beyond translation: Chinese-market sources, terminology and learning materials are built into the research environment. Current documentation.
Strengths. For Chinese-speaking A-share researchers, screening and stock analysis can sit in the same workspace. The focus is practical when mainland equities are the central research universe.
Weaknesses. Deployment requires multiple components, including Python, Node.js, MongoDB and Redis. Maintaining the application is more involved than running a simple analysis script. The edition boundary matters too: scheduled and batch analysis, custom-agent tooling and advanced report exports are listed as Pro features. Edition comparison.
Licensing is hybrid. The core engine uses Apache-2.0, while application components are proprietary source-available software with restrictions on redistribution and commercial use. License.
A useful starting setup. Our assessment is to begin with Community Edition single-stock research and screening. Confirm edition and license requirements before planning automation or commercial reuse. InvestingStack lists broader markets, but the current README explicitly limits the system to A-share research; current project documentation is the relevant scope reference.
These projects solve different problems. TradingAgents emphasizes examining a thesis; Daily Stock Analysis provides a recurring briefing; AI Hedge Fund explores portfolio simulation; Vibe-Trading creates executable experiments; and TradingAgents-CN offers a localized A-share environment.
For an initial evaluation, define one research task and keep a record of the result: which facts were correct, which sources were missing, what the run cost and whether the output improved the process. For a backtest, inspect data dates, benchmark choice, costs and the assumptions behind simulated execution. None of those checks can be replaced by a star count.
An idea also needs to fit the investor's existing holdings and rules. Our article on keeping control of AI-assisted investing explains the relationship between research, an investment mandate and portfolio monitoring. The TradingAgents connector described above brings research into that context; Investboard does not execute its trading decisions.
By total GitHub stars, the five leading projects on October 11, 2026 were TradingAgents, Daily Stock Analysis, AI Hedge Fund, Vibe-Trading and TradingAgents-CN. Other sorts, such as growth, can produce a different order.
No. InvestingStack ranks projects by public GitHub metrics. Stars indicate attention, not investment performance. This comparison assesses documented capabilities and limitations; it contains no comparative returns benchmark.
TradingAgents structures the examination of a stock thesis, Daily Stock Analysis produces recurring watchlist briefings, AI Hedge Fund explores portfolio approaches through paper trading, Vibe-Trading supports executable research experiments and TradingAgents-CN provides a Chinese-language A-share workspace.
The current Community Edition uses a hybrid license: Apache-2.0 for the core engine and proprietary terms for application components. Scheduled and batch analysis and advanced exports are listed as Pro features.
